DJ Jo Mills (UK)

Jo's love affaire with music began well over 10 years ago when she worked at Flying Records in Soho alongside Rocky and Mark Wilkinson. With those two problem kids either side of her, Jo couldn't help but get the bug for DJing and convinced Mark to teach her how to mix. Initially I just wanted to learn how to mix, I never thought it would lead to DJing', says Jo.

During this time Jo's played her trademark of solid percussive, sexy, twisted house music with soul,' alongside some of the best DJs in the world (David Morales, Sneak, Terry Farley, Deep Dish, Paul Oakenfold, Tony Humphries...) She's also gained a pretty credible fan club, which includes the likes of Pete Tong, who's just bestowed the honour of an Essential Mix for Radio One upon her and Danny Tenaglia, who personally invited Jo to guest at his night, Be Yourself at New York's Vinyl club in 2000.

Her reputation as one of the nice lasses in the business is down to not only her talent and no nonsense attitude but also her ability to get right on down and mucky with the rest of us on the dancefloor. And you'd expect nothing less from someone who's about to get hitched to the maddest of them all Charlie Chester and someone who hangs around with Dave Beer, (just don't ask her what his nick name for her is!)

Sunday July 27th
James Lavelle
Mo Wax Records

The James Lavelle musical revolution has gone full circle and that big wheel just keeps on turning.

James founded Mo' Wax Records in 1993 taking the Lavelle musical approach to even greater heights with the release in 1996 of DJ Shadow's seminal 'Entroducing', a record that turned music on its head and catapulted Mo' Wax into the spotlight as never before. James says simply 'It changed everythig'.

Like the rest of us, it was the parental record collection that switched James Lavelle on to music, early Lavelle sets included the likes of Stevie Wonder and Deep Purple, an eclectic mix that was an embryonic blueprint both for James Lavelle as a DJ and for his label Mo' Wax; good tunes are good tunes - the genre doesn't matter.

DJ Mikey Mike

Ohm recording artist D.J. Mikey Mike from Club Decibel in San Francisco rocked a full house (over 700 showed up!). Originally from Thailand, Mikey Mike brought the best of both worlds to his energetic performance.

Its rare to have a DJ who has extensive knowledge of music, technique AND know how to push the right buttons for the Bangkok crowd. His annual guest appearances have proven popular. His Thai roots combined with his U.S. experience make him a local favourite.

Sunday Feburary 3, 2002
DJ Derrick Carter
Chicago, USA

Carter went from strength to strength and is now widely regarded as one of the premier deep house DJ in the world alongside Kenny Hawkes, Mark Farina, and Pepe Bradock. Carter's releases can be found on labels such as Organico (as Sound Patrol), The End (as Tone Theory), and of course the London-based label he runs with Luke Soloman, Classic. In addition, he has had mixes commissioned by U.K. dance publication Mixmag and South London tech-house/deep house imprint Pagan.

As you can tell, he's a bit of a star. The Fred Everything remix of "Life Is Like A Circle," released on Bombay Records, combines deep graceful chords with gritty beats and solemn male vocals. This is the music that you pray for on the dance floor.
